Kheemo (Mince Chicken Curry)

When you had a really long day at work, you are craving something spicy, but easy, then why not try this Kheemo Recipe!

I remember as a child, waiting for my parents to come home from a long day, starting an Indian clothing business. My mom would come home tired and needing to quickly whipping up something affordable and easy for the family; this was her go to.

Kemo

 

Kheemo (Mince Curry)

  • 2 tbs oil
  • 2 star anise
  • 5-6 whole cloves
  • 1 stick of cinnamon
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 1 lb ground chicken (or minced meat of choice)
  • 2 tbs green masala
  • 1/2 tomato shredded
  • 1 tsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbs ground coriander/cumin
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • pinch of turmeric
  • 1/2 tbs salt (add more as needed)
  • 1/2 tbs curry powder
  • 1 potato cut in pieces
  • 1 cup water
  • 1tbs garam masalo
  • cilantro for garnish

Directions

  1. Heat oil in a deep pot and add star ansie, cloves, and cinnamon stick; fry until fragrant
  2. Add onion and let them cook until translucent
  3. On low-medium heat add ground chicken, slowly stir until meat starts to crumble
  4. When water starts releasing from meat add green masala, tomato, tomato paste, ground coriander/cumin, chili powder, turmeric, salt, curry powder, and stir.
  5. Cook until slightly
  6. Mix ingredients and slowly start to add water
  7. Add potato and let simmer until potato is cooked
  8. Add garam masalo, mix, and turn off heat
  9. Garnish with cilantro
  10. ENJOY with some rice!

 

***Can substitute mince chicken for turkey or lamb and still tastes great!
